June 17th, 2020: A Lesson from History
Not many people talk about the Cultural Revolution in China these
days. It was launched in 1966 to get rid of the Four Olds: Old Customs,
Old Culture, Old Habits, and Old Ideas as dictated by the Communist
Party. Some people in the West seem to have forgotten the cost of human
lives because of the Cultural Revolution, estimated up to 20 million, as
China emerges as a new economic power today. The Cultural Revolution
happened because the Communist government wanted to create a chokehold
to control the people of China. In Canada, we have a national political
leader who said naively that he admired the Chinese form of
dictatorship. That is the same leader who recently joined BLM
protestors. That is the inconsistency and the hypocrisy we have to be
content within Canada.
Canadians are very proud
of being nice people. That does not mean that our country is not going
through a seriously blind period. The flag for human rights seems to fly
high, but do not allow that to fool you. Some of these political
leaders and cultural activists are not aiming for human rights. They
intend to destroy the moral fibers of this nation. They have a definite
agenda to dismantle the fundamental spiritual, social, and cultural
foundation of Canada. It is a new version, a politically correct version
of the Cultural Revolution.
The New Four Olds in Canada today:
Old
Moral Convictions: Right and Wrong are not that easy to discern today.
The basic moral framework is no longer there. School teachers cannot
correct their student behavior while parents cannot raise their kids
according to their moral values. Our government has ostracized
faith-based organizations for taking their position on the beginning of
human life. In brief, one will be condemned by the state because of his
or her moral convictions.
Old Traditions: Being
traditional is now considered as being backward. Traditional values
that are defined by the Judeo-Christian values are the things of the
past. No one seems to know how the new ways of life are going to be.
What we have seen recently is chaos and a lack of meaningful approaches
to some of the damaging human struggles. Some accuse us of being
narrow-minded if we take a stand on issues or voice our opinions.
Old
Ways of Life: Many seem to advocate new ways of life, and in those new
ways, we have the privilege to acknowledge and define our history (or
not). Many have talked about news ways to establish our rights without
defining our collective responsibilities. Schools have introduced new
curriculums without having any consultation and conversations with
parents. Some people even go further by asking society to pay for their
personal choices while continuing to destroy the hard work of many who
contribute to that cost.
Old Schools of
Thoughts: Having faith in God is a no-no. Celebrating the presumption of
who we are is cherished. Defining our values and worth in God is not
encouraged. Redefining our worth on our perception of our self-worth is
the way to go. God is irrelevant. We are as long as we know who we are.
Now that can be a very dangerous presupposition.
It
appears as if the society has been drugged or dupped by political
correctness. Fear and hate rule the day while claiming to fight for
injustice. News agencies seem to tolerate the mob mentality, and the mob
celebrates lawlessness. We are indeed living in a very confusing time.
As a Christian, I now have a glimpse of how some Chinese people felt
during the Cultural Revolution. One thing we should remember is the Home
Church in China experienced tremendous growth during those years of the
Cultural Revolution. God is active regardless of the human agenda.
2 Peter 2: 19
"They promise them freedom, while they themselves are slaves of depravity—for “people are slaves to whatever has mastered them."
