July 22nd, 2020: Garden of Life

Get Ready for Earth Day With These Gardening Shows on Netflix

I enjoy viewing other people's gardens when I go for a walk. In some ways, we can tell something about the owners by how their yard and their garden look. There are some incredibly meticulous ones just north of our houses. Some very unique ones have been set up by folks who moved here from the Far East. Some people seem to enjoy a wide range of mixtures of flowers that grow in a random pattern. Others who approach their gardening as if they are working on math problems.

When we consider our life, the fruits of our lifework can also reveal a lot about who we are, what our priorities are, what are our talents, and what we value in life.

Some of us have progressed quite successfully in the corporate world and have made significant contributions to that sector of the marketplace. These folks have possessed personal discipline and drive to make that happen. Many are also men and women of vision.

Some of us have become established entrepreneurs and run different businesses, anything from insurance, restaurants, computer software codders, and more. These folks are very creative and effective communicators. These folks rarely stop thinking about ideas and very good multitaskers.

Some of us have found ourselves to be in public services. These folks provide needed services to many public institutions in our nations. Some are now leaders in many of these institutions, and they will make their country proud. These folks have clear ideas for processes and policies.

Some of us have wandered into the field of spiritual mentorship, teaching, and service. These people tend to be into caring for the sick, the oppressed, and the shut-in. People only think about these folks when things are not going great, and when they struggle with life. These folks are like the salt shaker on a dining table. We might not care whether it is there. But when we need it, we are baffled that it is not there.

That is a quick snapshot of the garden. If human life. I have no doubts that you can also add more of your own snapshots. Let us give thanks for gifts, creation and beauty as we appreciate what we see.

Psalm 139: 14

"I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well."
