Aug 26th, 2020: Helpless Prayer

A Prayer for Others When You Feel Helpless - Amma The Divine Mother

Now, Covid-19 hit me a little bit closer. I met a Filipino family a few years back. They were living with a friend of mine and his family in Canada. Their son suffers from a condition of mental illness. He and his sister somehow have chosen to keep in touch with me since they went back home. Well, to make a long story short, their mom contracted Covid-19 a few days ago when she went looking for her son, who lost at the time in another province. They admitted her to an ICU at a hospital in Manila. Her dad is working as a safety officer overseas. He cannot find his way home yet.

The daughter is worried sick because of her mother's condition and her brother's situation as well. She asked me to pray for her family on Facebook Message. How do we pray when we are utterly helpless? That is the question I have encountered very often lately.

We learn about how Jesus prayed before the crucifixion from John 17. It was an ugly and painful death that He had to go through.

He affirmed the relationship with God, the Father. He relied on the oneness he has with God. When everything I know has gone sideways on me, the only I am confident about the promise of that very relationship. If I am secure in it, I can see the light shining through the darkness of my own soul. By doing so, I might be able to see and then to reveal the Glory of God in a very troubling world.

He then prayed for the disciples. He then affirmed His relationships with them and their relationships with the Father through Him. He prayed that they might be comforted and protected. As we pray with people when they go through a very challenging time of their life, we pray for comfort in one's relationship with God and spiritual protection as one's life is being exposed to the threat and the damnation of others or the consequences of living in this world.

We can now enter the place of praying for the entire world. We pray that God will grant us wisdom, knowledge, and courage to be who He desires us to be even though we don't understand. We pray for hope in that way as well.

So I pray for this family that they know God is with them, for them and before them at this time as their mom is fighting to breathe. I would appreciate it if you can join me as well.

John 17
