Aug 31st, 2020: Some Thoughts for This Day
I am bothered by the fact that there has been no official statement from the Government of Canada concerning the destruction of historical landmarks that involve Sir John MacDonald Statues. Where do we stand as a nation and people concerning the history of Canada? I refuse to believe that one specific group of people should have the only and complete say about who we are and what we do because we don't even know their whole agenda either. For us to move forward, we need to appreciate history and its context. We need more than shaming and blaming slogans in order to bring about real changes. There has to be room for conversations with different options and ideas.
Are we going to replace racism with tyranny? I detest racism because of my own Christian conviction. However, I find recent events that claim to fight against racial tension have been cruel, oppressive, and intentionally arbitrary toward some people. Fundamentally, crying out "police brutality" is as general and unjust as crying out "all_____people is criminal". We can fill in the blank. Yes, there are police officers who are guilty of brutality toward a specific racial group. And yes, there are _____people who are guilty of criminal acts. How are we going to deal with the criminal element of our society if we don't find a meaningful way to address this issue? Maybe some of these folks do not think crimes really exist according to what we have seen lately in some of the demonstrations.
I don't kneel for the singing of our national anthem because I believe in the values of all black lives, born and unborn. There are at least 350,000 unborn black lives killed every year in the US alone, and those who did that believe it is within their personal right and privilege to treat these lives lesser than being human (Some of the white folks used the same argument to support racism towards black folks). That is another way of looking at brutality. I have no interest in telling anyone what to do with their body. Someone has to speak on behalf of people who have no voice. So if we do the math, I have to kneel about 1000 times a day to show sorrow and anger for the black lives that have been lost unjustly. I prefer to pray for the needed courage to do what is right.
The last items I would like to touch on in this message is the increasing troublesome caused by Political Correctness (PC). We are now living in a time when the freedom of speech has been canceled by PC. PC now stands for different ideas in my mind: Persuasion by Coerciveness. Basically, if we happen to think differently from these folks, we have to be canceled and destroyed. PC has been using air horns to shut out speakers at various public platforms they don't like. It is funny to see how a leader of PC reacted during her interview with Jeff Jeffries when he used his air horn every time she opened her mouth. She gave him a dirty look. That was a candid display of hypocrisy.
1 Corinthians 13: 11
"When I was a child, I used to speak like a child, think like a child, reason like a child; when I became a man, I did away with childish things."
