Oct 8th, 2020: Living in the Twilight Zone
How many of you remember the TV series The Twilight Zone? The first episode was produced in 1951. It has become one of the all-time favorites. Every episode started with this serious introduction:
"There is a fifth dimension beyond that which is known to man. It is a dimension as vast as space, and as timeless as infinity. It is the middle ground between light and shadow, and it lies between the pit of man's fears and the summit of his knowledge. This is the dimension of imagination. It is an area that we call, The Twilight Zone."
We know that infinity is workable and needed concept. After all, in Mathematics and Physics, infinity has to exist for things to either make sense or work. However, we continue to go about our daily life without paying too much attention to the presence of the infinite.
As we go through this COVID 19 time together, we learn that we are indeed living between light and shadow. The shadow of fear and destruction for some. The shadow of cynicism and resentment for others. We become more and more aware of our own emotions due to how we are dealing with our shadow. Yet, we all long for the light. We want to be able to see things clearly and with hope. At that very moment, we live in The Twilight Zone between what God has done and has not yet done.
We are confident in the scientific and technological knowledge. We are less certain about our understanding of the human heart, desire, and deception. We become more and more aware of the risk of being manipulated by various forms of social media. Things that we enjoy having now are becoming threats to our well-being. We read and ponder. We watch and bewilder. All of this has brought us to The Twilight Zone that lies between fear and knowledge.
We don't want to live according to our imagination alone. We want to be sure about how we are doing and where we are going. That is when we need to enter The Twilight Zone of Grace that lies between judgment and forgiveness. It is when the infinite and the finite becomes one.
John 1: 14
"And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth."
