Nov 25th, 2020: Walking with God

One of my favorite exercises is walking. I like to walk alone sometimes because it helps me to think over things that have been happening in life. It is a significant part of my solitude. I don't walk just to get the cardio exercise I need. I also walk to exercise my spiritual muscles. I remember the conversations I have had with God during many of my walks. Many of them are very humbling because it was about how I have been avoiding him. Christians talk a lot about walking with God. We know the image of being carried by God when our walk with him becomes too tiring. So what does it mean to walk with God in our daily life?

It is an act of worship. As we walk with God, we slowly learn how to let Him take the lead. We know that we don't know where we should go on that specific day and what are the issues we need to face. We learn how not to fight back even though we are terrified. It is an act of worship because we eventually acknowledge that we need to surrender ourselves to him. It is just too challenging and exhausting to do things our ways.

It is about learning to discover how redemption works in our life. The more we walk with God, the more we are in touch with our imperfection. It is like telling the story of our life while walking with Him. His desire to be with us is amazing. We know that we are broken because of our own lack of godliness. Yes, the voice we hear is not one of condemnation but assurance. "Tell me more about your thoughts, your longing, and your struggles," God says in our walk with Him. Our openness to God is the first step to experience forgiveness.

It is about knowing joy, and it is not like happiness. Joy exists in the midst of suffering. Nothing can kill it because it belongs to the heart of God. Joy takes our hearts to a deeper level of being with God. It is not superficial and loud. It is quiet and resilient. Joy opens our minds to a greater understanding of life while dealing with the temptation of our thoughts. It is not about having things figured out. It is about letting ourselves be free when we don't know what to do.

Romans 6: 4

"We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life."
