Nov 27th, 2020: Listening to Our Hearts

Listening To God | Devotional Reading Plan | YouVersion Bible

Life has changed a lot in 2020. We are not enjoying the same "freedom" we had a year ago. Some people begin to be cynical towards all of the safety measures that their governments have introduced. Others have resigned to the fact that life will not be the same anymore. Many Americans don't seem to care about the virus as they travel this Thanksgiving week to be with their families. Many governments have allowed casinos and pubs to be open while shutting down religious worship gatherings. Every state in the US and every province in Canada seems to have different approaches and regulations towards the pandemic. We certainly live in a very confusing time.

What should we do, and how should we act when we don't seem to have the information we need? I was sad that many of my siblings could not come to my father's funeral. My heart was pondering in many ways as I went for a walk the evening before the funeral. As my heart went into quietness, I learn to understand how to deal with the vicious contradictory facts of the world. It is not about having answers to the many unresolved questions. It is about believing more fully in the answer God has given to our world, a suffering one.

Learn to look beyond our self-preoccupation. We will be a lot freer if we take a step toward serving those who are not as fortunate as we are. We will be able to deal with what we have lost by realizing what we still have. The suffering of the underprivileged will continue to grow. There will be more people who cannot feed their families, have to survive one day at a time, and suffer from severe loneliness. And yes, many more will mourn the loss of their loved ones. Let our hearts not be callous when we read about the number of people who have died from this virus. Please don't treat what you read just as numbers. They are all precious to God.

May our heart be silent so that we can hear God. May our minds be at rest so that we escape the noises of life. May our spirit be at peace so that we might know God.

"I can do everything through Christ who gives me strength." - Philippians 4: 13
