Nov 29th, 2020: Christmas Blessings - God is not Indifferent to Our Pains

 Blessings of Christmas

Maybe it is the right time to have some reflections about what Christmas really means. As we approach this Christmas Season with many uncertainties, it might be healthy for us to ask what we can be certain about as we are approaching 2021.

One thing we know for sure that human sufferings are real. We don't have to look very hard to see them. A lady, who was in line in front of me we waited to pay for our tree, told me that her mother died from Covid-19 in June, and it has been hard on her and the kids. I asked her whether she was able to talk to someone about what she is going through. There was not a word for a short moment. She then told me that she had never been comfortable to seek help. "Maybe, you want to give God a try", I told her. Surprisingly, she was not resisting my suggestion. I shared with her that Christmas is the time to discover that God is not indifferent to our pains and suffering.

This conversation reminds me that we just have to be available, and God will continue to teach us about Christmas. We might not be able to gather with our families and loved ones, but He will always be there with us and for us. We need to be aware of what is going around us so that we might see how God loves us as we learn to reach out to others. As she moved on after she paid for her tree, I found myself praying for her and the kids quietly. I don't even know her name. But God does, and more than just her name. "God Bless You!", she said to me as she headed toward the tree storage area. That whole encounter indeed blesses me. God is quite aware of our human suffering.

Blessings to you as you prepare yourself for this special time of the year.
