Dec 16th, 2020: Christmas Blessing - Being Lifted Up

Lifting others up does not push you down | by Scott Bromander | Age of Awareness | Medium

I could not decide whether I like the white lights or the color lights better as Christmas decorations. Well, you might say that I have too much time in my hand to ponder such a thing. I cannot help it as more folks have decided to put Christmas lights on this year. We appreciate that because they lift our spirit up as we drove around and looked at lights in different parts of the city. Some of the lights displays are incredibly creative. They have music, different light intensities, and all.

Someone sent me a video clip from John Maxwell about 'Lifting Others Up' yesterday. That fits with what I have been thinking about since the weekend. Here are a few questions we need to ask ourselves:

A) Can we lift others up if we are always negative about life? Most of us don't like to gather around downers. We find them exhausting and energy-consuming. Being with these types of people is sucking the life out of us. Our worldview about life should not be based on our own ability either. We should be able to find hope in what has been revealed by God and to have faith in what remains to be secret in Him.

B) Being able to 'lift others up' brings life. When we are in dire straits situation, we need people who can do that for us. They might be able to present different perspectives of what we perceive as our problems. It is not about having answers. It is about having faith in believing that the answer will come. I think that the wise men at the time of Jesus' birth lifted Joseph and Mary up by traveling a long distance to be with them.

What does it mean for us to lift one another up this Christmas?

"Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand." - Isaiah 41: 10
