Dec 20th, 2020: Christmas Blessing - God Stands with Us
Today we will continue to explore another scripture passage in Handle's Messiah. I have been very intentional about listening to various Christmas hymns and meditate on their lyrics. For me, I see it as how I enter prayers as I reflect on the deeper meaning of what I am listening to. Today's verse is from Job 19:25.
"I know that my redeemer lives,
and that in the end, he will stand on the earth."
There is a sense of certainty about this verse. "I know" is a definite statement. It is not "I think, or I hope". Job was still very sure about his God in the midst of his intense suffering. Have we ever asked ourselves during 2020 about what we really know? We have been bombarded by false information and the deformation of knowledge. We have also been overloaded with deception and falsehood.
Job's knowledge of God affirmed him that God is his redeemer and He is well and alive. I have encountered people who have attempted to ridicule my faith and my conviction that God will redeem all things back to Himself. He will stand on the earth for one simple reason, our great need for restoration. Many people today look toward scientists as their savior because we need the vaccine for Covid-19. As much as I am deeply grateful for the gifts and talents of these men and women of science, I am also with the world-view that God stands with us and grants us the knowledge we need to overcome the challenges of Covid-19. If we choose to lean toward God in what we do and who we are, He will stand with us as well.
So let us receive the blessing of God is our living redeemer as we prepare to celebrate Christmas.
