Jan 18th, 2021: Seek The Disappearance of The Self

30 Top Bible Verses About Pride - Encouraging Scripture

We need to learn true humility at this moment in our history. Boasting and revenge are not the solutions we need while seeking healing for a broken nation. Maybe we have allowed pride to be the main driven force in how we relate to one another. We can see deception from both the left and the right. Let us learned from our desert fathers so we might come in touch with our needs for God.

"Humility is nothing but the disappearance of self in the vision that God is all." - Andrew Murray

We have seen a total contrast in the world today. We have witnessed leaders who continually stress how important and how special they are to the people they lead. When we focus on the self, we might end up seeing nothing at all. When leaders fail to take themselves out of the picture so that people can seek God earnestly, they will bring destruction.

"Pride must die in you, or nothing of heaven can live in you." - Andrew Murray

Pride is the worst form of self-conceit. When it is the guide for our conduct, our destination will be death. It is the death of Godly living, hope, joy, comfort, togetherness, compassion, forgiveness, and much more. Total emptiness and destruction are what we see when we look for what comes after pride.

"True humility is able to look at God and proceed on" - Watchman Nee

We feel no shame in being humble because we experience restoration and forgiveness fully. That is why we can look at God and press on. We are not moving forward because we think it is our right and our privilege to do so. We do that as forgiven people.

"I am persuaded that love and humility are the highest attainments in the school of Christ and the brightest evidence that He is indeed our Master." - John Newton

Love and humility are two aspects of God's love that can be understood and appreciated in our relationship with one another. I have not seen many people who reject sincere love and caring commitment to that. People will be quick to shy away from the fallacy of love.

Let us pray for this week with these thoughts in mind.

Jeremiah 9: 23

"This is what the LORD says: “Let not the wise boast of their wisdom or the strong boast of their strength or the rich boast of their riches"

Proverbs 11: 2

"When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom."

Psalm 10: 4

"In his pride, the wicked man does not seek him; in all his thoughts there is no room for God."
