Jan 1st, 2021: New Year's Perspectives - New Leadership
It seems surreal to be in 2021. For some of us, 2020 was a year of tyranny. We saw how fragile our civilization could be. We discovered how fast things could change. We learned to accept that our politicians can be untrustworthy. We despised how some of them have abused their power and become undemocratic in their approach to governing their nations.
The true heroes of 2020 are the front line workers. Many of them are still giving all they have at this time because the pandemic has not yet subsided. Many of them have lost their lives while caring for others. Let us not undermine the sacrifices these folks have taken by saying things like: "it is just like the flu, many people are dying from other diseases, it is not that big a deal..."
Many leaders have failed to lead during this past year when some others have risen to the occasion. It was one of the most confusing years when it came to the test of leadership. Some of us don't seem to find comfort in our national leadership. Many of them have used this pandemic to advance both their personal and political agendas.
So how do we pray for 2021? Let us hope that God raises a new wave of leadership that brings about truth, compassion, courage, civility, humility, genuineness, and stability. Nothing will be simple and straight forward in 2021. We are entering a very delicate moment in human history. We need leaders who lead with Godly convictions and compassion. Leaders make decisions based on what is right and not what is popular. May God give us the wisdom to see beyond the facade of niceness and political correctness. 2021 can be the year of reckoning when we realize the price of disregarding God.
Isaiah 10:3
"Now what will you do in the day of punishment,
And in the devastation which will come from afar?
To whom will you flee for help?
And where will you leave your wealth?"
