Jan 3rd, 2021: New Year's Perspective - Fighting against a witch hunt
I am not sure I understand why the press has given the politicians who decided to travel for personal reasons such a hard time. First, I do not believe that they broke any law. The statements from the federal government and provincial ones are that people are advised not to travel for non-essential reasons. It is a travel advisory. So whoever decided to do so, do it with his or her risks.
Indeed, the optic is not good because elected officials are supposed to provide leadership and example to their people. I prefer to leave the decision to their constituency when the next election comes around to decide whether they can still want these folks to represent them. Calling for resignation for that is absurd. The press seems to have a short-term or selected memory when dealing with politicians who abuse the public trust. What happens to the "WE" scandal and our PM (in Canada)? Why don't we hear them calling for his resignation?
Can it be true that we are now living in a time of new social consciousness with a particular manifesation of a witch hunt? Somehow, some people seem to think that they have the right to tell us what is right, how we should think, what kind of human being we should be, how we should talk and think. I am afraid that we are going through a worse time of brainwashing, behavioral monitoring, social interaction sanction, faith practice limitations, and many more. The day we lose our sense of freedom to exercise what we believe is morally right, that is the day we lose our true humanity.
That is why I think we are facing a perplexing year. As I said in one of my previous blogs, it is the year of reckoning.
Isaiah 2: 12
"For the Lord of armies will have a day of reckoning
Against everyone who is arrogant and haughty,
And against everyone who is lifted up,
That he may be brought low."
