Feb 4th, 2021: Choosing Life is Democratic
It took a while for society and the business world to acknowledge the seriousness of mental health. We could not face and deal with illnesses we didn't understand. People can have a "normal appearance" while suffering from mental health conditions. Now we acknowledge that there is suffering even though we do not see it.
We might approach evil things in the world the same way. We are willing to call something evil and wrong when it is ugly and not civilized. We seem to face a much more difficult task while dealing with the civility of evil. The niceness of evil does not mean it is not. Maybe we are just so deceived and cannot see it.
Recently, some politicians accused anti-abortion folks that they are selling out democracy because some supported the previous president. That is a convenient way to get their pro-abortion bill passed by the House of Representatives. Abortion is a human right issue. It is more than just the right of a woman over her own body. Many pregnant women would admit that the baby and mom's body become very intricately intertwined as soon as conception happens. It is not just an issue for people of faith because many non-religious people share the same concern.
Who kiboshes the democratic process? Those who want to be sure that the unborn people have a voice and eventually have a say and contribution to the world or those who would rather say to the unborn people that they are not human and they don't deserve to have a life because of their parents' inconvenience and poor choices.
Personal note: I am grateful that my parents did not get an abortion when my mother was pregnant with me although they have many kids in a war-torn country. Life was not easy, and they were not wealthy. One thing I know that they didn't have to look back with shame and regret. They believed that it was morally right to do that. By the way, they believe in democracy, and that was why they left Vietnam in 1975 after the Communists took over the country.
Ecclesiastes 12: 13-14
"Now all has been heard; here is the conclusion of the matter: Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the duty of all mankind. For God will bring every deed into judgment, including every hidden thing, whether it is good or evil."
