April 10th, 2021: Hate is Another Virus

One of my friends described hate as a virus that kills more human beings than any other virus. We are now dealing with a new pandemic, the pandemic of hate. Are we that tired of Coronavirus? It seems to us that we are constantly witnessing one wave of human suffering after another.

One of the employees of a client of mine asked me recently whether some people have problems with him being a foreman because of his religion. He shared with me a comment he overheard from some co-workers. I told him that the ownership and the senior leadership are not. He went to school in Canada and now has a chance to stay. He earned his place to be where he is.

After this conversation, I realized we still have a lot of work to confront racial bias in the workplace. It is like teaching our kids proper behaviours. We have to be consistent and persistent in confronting hate. We can't bend a bamboo tree overnight. It requires a lot of endurance and commitment.

Our perseverance in dealing with racial bias will produce the needed characters that our world is looking for today. The more mature we are in our faith, the more we are able to see all people created in the image of God. God will not forsake us when we are about His business. He will walk with us, grant us courage, give us hope and renew us daily as we aim to love and protect others.

As some people say: "Sanitize your heart. Hate is a virus too."

Philippians 4:13

"I can do all this through him who gives me strength."

Romans 5: 3-4

"Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope."
