April 28th, 2021: Our Heart and Our Mind

 


I love this cartoon. So many people have suffered from the lack of sleep and rest because they end their days with troubling thoughts and angry hearts. Some of us don't even know to allow our minds to rest and our hearts be still. Being positive is more than just a mindset. It is a decision that comes from our relationship with God and with one another.


There are many passages in the Bible about our thoughts. Here is one in Philippians:


"Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things." - Philippians 4: 8


How often do we see the truth, nobility, purity, and admiration in the massive amount of communication around us? There is so much distortion in our quest for the truth. Our society has undermined nobility in our relationships. We don't even talk about purity because we have chosen compromise over it. We have selected different personalities to admire and not God. Love is a myth because we don't even know how to love ourselves. 


What the Bible has to say about a grateful heart?


"Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name. For the Lord is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations."- Psalm 100:4-5


It is a thankful heart. It always finds ways to praise God. It is able to acknowledge the goodness of God. It can fathom the greatness of God's love. It reflects our thankfulness to God and others. It is the kind of heart that impacts people regardless of our geography. Its influence goes beyond the limit of time. People always know how to cherish a kind heart.
