May 14th, 2021: Ungodly Leaders and the Aftermath

One of the casualties of Covid-of19 is the erosion of trust people have towards their governments. Maybe Covid-19 highlights some of the significant struggles people have had with the authorities. These struggles are not new. They just display themselves with greater intensity. So what might be the problems we are dealing with at this moment?

The problem of leadership: when people don't believe that their governments have their best interests and concerns at heart, there will be resistance toward what the governments ask them to do. It is a real crisis of political leadership worldwide. It is almost impossible to name a decent political leader at this present time.

The problem of economic inequality: we can not ignore the widening gap between the haves and the have nots. It is the cause of social unrest, and sometimes it has taken the tone of racial inequality. The deep-rooted anger in the US tells us that economic inequality has reached a critical point. It is the cancer cell that continues to spread into other fabrics of our nations.

The problem of misinformation: we have become warier of what we read online. Some of it might have been initiated by our governments and some by others. We feel manipulated by what we see and read on social media. We get angry, confused, overwhelmed, and indifferent. Somehow, there is the temptation to create our narrative as we try to counter these waves of misinformation.

The problem of believing in experts: expertise has been minimized or overlooked. Announcements from health officials have been questioned and criticized. CDC and WHO don't seem to be able to get a fair hearing from people. There is a vacuum of trust in this pandemic. We are now facing a new pandemic. It has to do with people's strong resistance to anything that comes from experts.

Psalm 82
"God presides in the great assembly;
he renders judgment among the “gods”:
“How long will you defend the unjust
and show partiality to the wicked?
Defend the weak and the fatherless;
uphold the cause of the poor and the oppressed.
Rescue the weak and the needy;
deliver them from the hand of the wicked.
“The ‘gods’ know nothing, they understand nothing.
They walk about in darkness;
all the foundations of the earth are shaken.
“I said, ‘You are “gods”;
you are all sons of the Most High.’
But you will die like mere mortals;
you will fall like every other ruler.”
Rise up, O God, judge the earth,
or all the nations are your inheritance."
