May 15th, 2021: We Are Suffering From A Corporate Stroke

I went to visit a friend who lost her ability to move because of a stroke. It was not easy to see her in that condition because she was vibrant and full of life as a therapist. The lack of movement was challenging, but it is not as hard as the lack of cognitive awareness. We could not really communicate much. However, I know that she was aware that I was there.

I thought about this visit and what our nations have been going through. There are so many parallels. Our countries are suffering from some form of stroke. Let us look at some of the consequences caused by suffering from a stroke (John Hopkins Medicine).

  • Movement and sensation: Our countries don't seem to get any tractions. People are tired and numbed. We don't move much either. Our sense of well-being is limited to the surrounding of our home. We lose our sense of awareness of time and place.
  • Speech and language: we don't seem to be able to communicate well with one another. We might talk to each other, and somehow nothing makes sense. We listen to our leaders and wonder what happens to sincerity and truthfulness. We try to listen and there is no comprehension.
  • Vision: we can hardly see tomorrow. We are looking for things to blame even when they are not real. We see things because we want them to be there. It is hard enough to see today.
  • Cognitive (thinking, reasoning, judgment, and memory) ability: this is a significant loss in our society in dealing with Covid-19. We don't seem to be able to reason. Our judgment is impaired. Our thought process is not coherent. Propaganda has distorted some memories of who we were as nations.
  • Perception and orientation to surroundings: our perception has been negatively influenced by our lack of trust toward authorities. Some of us have chosen to live in a self-created reality, and it has nothing to do with the physical and emotional surroundings that we experience.
  • Emotional control: what emotional control? Religious leaders act like maniacs. Politicians are emotionally dead while lying. People argue with each other about the role of vaccines. TV news programs are shouting matches. A president calls his predecessor a liar or a former president calls his successor stupid.

Maybe when my friend recovers from her stroke, Covid-19 will be over. What she knew about it before her stroke might just be a bad dream. Well, that will be a good dream for some of us.

Psalm 147: 3

"He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds."

Isaiah 58: 8

"Then shall your light break forth like the dawn, and your healing shall spring up speedily; your righteousness shall go before you; the glory of the Lord shall be your rear guard."

Proverbs 17: 22

"A joyful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones."
