May 10th, 2021: Sleepless Culture

The lack of sleep is one of the major struggles for many people. Sleep disorder is one of the common illnesses in North America. We have also found many teens are not getting enough sleep. Many workplaces have experienced a loss of productivity because their employees are sleep-deprived. We know that our stressful life is one of the main reasons for that. Stress covers many parts of human brokenness.

Stress caused by the death of a loved one: death is final for many people who don't have faith in God. The finality of death can be both painful and stressful because of our unfinished conversation with the dead.

Stress caused by broken relationships: if we look at this seriously, our broken relationships started with the fall of humanity. We broke our relationship with God. Our broken relationships with one another are just the consequences of that event.

Stress caused by our loss of identity: Our loss of a job is one. Our losses of relationships with others are another. Our loss of ourselves is complicated than we know it. The origin of stress can be either from external challenges or internal struggles.

Stress caused by our newly found obsession. Our current obsession with social media and video games has become the dominant factor in sleep deprivation among young people. Many have lost all other interests for life. They have created another life for themselves within the screen of the small screen devices that manipulate them. Our faceless identities are on Facebook. We delay living our authentic lives with Instagram. We stop learning how to talk with Twitter. We engage in dancing with meaninglessness in Tik Tok. Furthermore, we ignore all others around us while doing so.

Psalm 101: 3
"I will not set before my eyes anything that is worthless. I hate the work of those who fall away; it shall not cling to me."

Deuteronomy 31: 8
"It is the LORD who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed."
