June 9th, 2021: How Conceited!
A movie star who lives in a 3.2 million dollar apartment suggested in her tweet that a pharmacy should not lock up its products. She then went on to say that they should let poor people steal from their stores. We all remember that no too long ago, congress charged a former president for inciting violent storming of the Capitol. His action was considered a threat to democracy and the stability of the nation. Twitter and Facebook then took action to shut down his accounts.
What happened to Cynthia Nixon since her last tweet? Nothing from Facebook and Twitter. Her comment has put many retail workers in danger. It is ignorant and unkind. It is in many ways undermining the fundamental right of business people, the right to do business safely and fairly. If we follow the trend of her thought, we will encounter further decay of our democracy. She basically advocates violence and chaos.
Many business people I know have given sacrificially to the poor. They have helped these folks with food and shelters. They have donated to these causes because they believe that it is the right to do. They don't need a movie star to tell them that they are prosecuting the poor by locking their stocks up. They don't need to have their stores robbed freely by those who listen to self-pompous ideas about what is right.
She might want to take the advice from another movie star, Denzel Washington, who seems to have a better understanding of his place as a celebrity:
"With so many things coming back in style, I can't wait until morals, respect, and intelligence become a trend again."
Do I need to add to this?
Roman 12: 9-11
"Let love be genuine. Abhor what is evil; hold fast to what is good. Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor. Do not be slothful in zeal, be fervent in spirit, serve the Lord."
Titus 2: 7
"Show yourself in all respects to be a model of good works, and in your teaching show integrity, dignity."
Philippians 2: 3
"Do nothing from rivalry or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves."
