July 21st, 2021: The Spiritual Heatwave

The heatwave left us for a short time and then came back. It is getting harder to breathe where we are because of the intense smoke from forest fires in BC. I tried to walk outside in the early morning, and it felt as if I was walking into a designated smoking room. It was not very comfortable.

It has been abnormally hot for the last few weeks. Whether we believe in Global Warming or not, one thing we know for sure is that nature is groaning because of human sin. We believe that at the beginning, everything God created was good. So it is not God who fails to keep His creation in good order, then it has to be us.

Maybe it is good that we become uncomfortable with the heat because we have been so accustomed to our selfish ways of life while thinking that there are no consequences. Many farmers are now worried about their yield for this coming harvest. Should we be concerned about our lack of godliness when waiting for the coming of Jesus? More than ever before, we see some striking evidence of how the world would like to be without God.

Some scientists seem to believe that we cannot even fully anticipate the changes in our weather in the future. We have some ideas by analyzing our scientific data, but we don't have the complete picture. How about the changes in spiritual climate in North America? The contamination of our human souls is more massive than we know it. We don't have any understanding of where we are going and who we have become.

Eventually, we will have to be accountable for our actions. We might try to run or hide but cannot escape our own shadow of darkness. The real suffering will be our sense of emptiness and confusion. We might have a lot of things, and yet nothing makes sense. We stare at the future only to discover the intense consequences of the past. Without the grace of God, we will not be able to face the heatwave that burns up our human soul.

Jeremiah 32: 33

"They have turned their back to Me and not their face; though I taught them, teaching again and again, they would not listen and receive instruction."

Proverbs 1: 31

"So they shall eat of the fruit of their own way

And be satiated with their own devices."
