July 22nd, 2021: Feeling God's Pleasure
Writing is not that easy for me. Sometimes I struggle to find words to express my thoughts. I pray that God will speak to me as I put my thoughts together. It is a spiritual discipline for me to write. Some people might write to make money. Others might do that to make a name for themselves. I feel a sense of duty to put my thoughts down on paper. In Chariots of Fire (1981), there was a meaningful conversation between Eric Liddell and his sister when she was mad at him for running on Sunday. He said to her: God made me for a purpose. God made me fast, and when I run, I feel His pleasure." I understand some of that pleasure as I write.
I have the pleasure of communicating with people whom I have never met. The world is so big, and the internet has given us the opportunities to reach out to people who we will never get the chance to meet personally. It is pleasing to God when we do that.
I have the pleasure of using words to express God's beauty and purpose for the world. Sometimes I see my writing as a form of heavenly gossiping. I use my words to gossip about God and His plan for us. God loves that we share His story with others and tell them that they are precious to Him.
I have the pleasure of serving others with my writing. I pray that my writing will comfort people while confronting them with solemn acknowledgment about life. I don't intend to condemn people in my writing. I hope it brings about hope and restoration. I also hope it brings clarity at times.
I have the pleasure of discovering God's heart when I prepare to write. The longer I stay in my silence as my preparation for writing, the more I can identify with the joy, the hope, the pain, and the anguish God has for humanity. It is hard for me to describe, but it is a privilege.
I have the pleasure of growing in the knowledge of God's grace as I share about him. I always try to be gracious in my writing because I believe I have received much grace from God. His grace for me has been the fuel for my writing.
My invitation to you is that you write as well.
Proverbs 16: 3
"Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established."
Ephesians 4: 2
"With all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love,"
