July 8th: Seeking God's Refuge and Strength
It is good to do some thinking while driving a long distance. It is also beneficial to pray. Sometimes I listen to the same passage of Scripture over and over and let God reveal what He has in mind for me in that message.
Here is the one I was pondering while driving to Lethbridge yesterday morning. I chose this text because I planned to spend some time with employees of a client whose facility was on fire last week.
Psalm 46:1-3
"God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging."
We seek refuge in God not because we want to hide from the challenges we have to face. Seeking refuge in God does not mean living in denial. We seek refuge in God so we can have the strength to deal with our problems and troubles.
Everything might appear to be overwhelming, but we don't have to be afraid. We learn how to rest in the promise of God and His presence. The external threads might want to destroy us, but we find the needed peace, tranquility, and confidence in our inner being with God.
The owner shared his conversation with the Fired Captain on site after the fire was under control with me. The Captain asked him how can be so calm? He answered that he trusts in what God has in mind by allowing this incident to happen. He just has to go through it with God.
I had a good day at the plant. Our people didn't appear to be rattled by the fire. There is a commitment to do their best to move forward. Now we have to pray for the process of rebuilding.
