Aug 11th, 2021: Seeking God

The truth about life is that we all are looking for something in life. Some talk about happiness. Others talk about success. Many might even mention relationships and the need for belonging. Security is also something many of us are looking for in life. In Matthew 6: 33, we are instructed to seek something totally different.

"But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well."

What does it mean to seek first the Kingdom of God? We cannot do that without the expectation that God is going to be there. It is about God's majesty, power, righteousness, and mercy. It is like allowing ourselves to be immersed in God. We have to do that more than once. We need to keep pushing forward so that we can truly understand what that means. Every day is a new day to discover something new about the Kingdom of God as we continue to live our lives on earth.

What will be given to us? Our daily needs will be met. Our sense of wholeness will be restored. When we learn how to go about our responsibilities for one another according to God's desire, we don't need to worry about what happens to us. When we leave God out of the picture, we encounter all kinds of problems. The same principle can also be applied to how our nations seek God. Ungodliness will surface when governments choose to go about their business without acknowledging God. Eventually, we experience the loss of identity. Some may say that the USA is a prime example of that. She is divided, broken, and overwhelmed. God is still out in the President's proclamation to the nation on the National Day of Prayer. Canada does not fare much better either.

We need to walk away from the assumption that humanity is too powerful, too self-aware, and too sophisticated to need God. More than ever before, we need to seek God first before anything else. We have deceived ourselves with the thought we have arrived. Maybe we have. We are just at the wrong station.
