Sept 10th, 2021: Lawn Bowling and Its Lesson
I was walking past a lawn bowling facility with a friend. It was a rather fun game to watch. It is not physically demanding. It does require some skills. Having a strategy might be a critical aspect of the game. Some might disagree and insist that the social interaction among players is what makes the game popular.
The game objective is to find ways to get your bowl to be the closest one to the target (the Jack). There are many ways to do that with different kinds of curving throws.
Here was what I found refreshing about watching a game as a spectator:
Players from different teams cheer whenever one makes a good throw regardless of his (her) team. It is a change from what we see in politics and the news these days.
The target is not stationary. It moves after being hit by a ball. Our objective of being a Christian will continue to grow and enlarge as we overcome various spiritual obstacles in life.
Players will find new ways to get closer to the target when it appears to be blocked. We should always find new ways to get closer to God even though our governments are trying to take away our freedom to do so.
There is no need for superstars. Everyone is encouraged to play their best game. A community celebration is more important than an individualistic achievement. People seemed to enjoy being together. That is what many people have been missing the most because of isolation due to Covid-19.
1 Timothy 2: 1-3
"First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way. This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth."
