Oct 10th, 2021: Happy Thanksgiving!
We certainly won't have any turkey this Thanksgiving. We are in Montreal with our youngest daughter. So what are we thankful for?
We cannot take our faith in God for granted because many people don't seem to be able to fathom it. Faith in what God has done for us is a gift to us. We didn't ask for it. We did not even anticipate it. It was initiated by God and completed by Jesus. (John 3:16)
We cannot overlook suffering because it can be a blessing. It sounds strange but it is true on many counts. It is not about glorying suffering. It is about embracing suffering so that we might identify with Jesus as we learn how to walk with Him.
(Matthew 16:24)
We are not afraid of our inadequacy. It is in our weaknesses that He makes us strong. We learn compassion and understanding when dealing with others. We discover God's faithfulness a lot more when we are struggling with our own inadequacy.
(2 Corinthians 12:9-11)
Finally, we are thankful for life. We cannot sustain everything in this life forever. When we fail to appreciate that life is more than just physical, we have reduced its meaning and purpose. Life is a gift from God and He creates all life, born and unborn. We only damage our own humanity when justifying our ways of terminating life.
(Psalm 9:1)
Happy Thanksgiving!
