Oct 13th, 2021: Effects of Drinking Wine
I sometimes enjoy a glass of wine over dinner with either family or friends. I am by no means a connoisseur of wine or the art of drinking it. I came across this new piece recently about the effect of wine. I am referring to "Scientists have finally worked out the effects of consuming red wine" by New Scientist.
Here is an excerpt from that article:
“Red wine increased pleasure and arousal, decreased the awareness of time, slowed the subjective passage of time, increased the attentional focus on the present moment, decreased body awareness, slowed thought speed, turned imagination more vivid, and made the environment become more fascinating,” the researchers found. “Red wine increased insightfulness and originality of thoughts, increased sensations of oneness with the environment, spiritual feelings, all-encompassing love, and profound peace. All changes in consciousness occurred regardless of volunteers drinking alone, in dyad or in group.”
Here are some of my takes on it.
If we like to increase our sense of oneness with somebody else and with the environment or nature, drink wine.
If we want to lose our sense of time, wine is good for that. The present moment might be all one cares about.
If we want to be fascinated by life and lose our sense of awareness, wine might provide an attractive passage to get there.
If we want to experience love with all of its dimensions (creativity, spirituality, imagination, profound peace, and all-encompassing feeling), wine is the fastest way to get that done.
I wonder this research was done during the COVID-19 shutdown.
1 Corinthians 6: 12
"All things are lawful for me,” but not all things are helpful. “All things are lawful for me,” but I will not be enslaved by anything."
Proverbs 31: 6-7
"Give strong drink to the one who is perishing, and wine to those in bitter distress; let them drink and forget their poverty and remember their misery no more."
