Oct 20th, 2021: The New ABC of Life

This picture reminds us that kids are back to school. For many people, the beginning of school signifies a new season in the family life. However, many of us have had the feeling that 2021 goes by so fast, and we can hardly notice the changes in seasons. We feel as if something is missing, and we might need to go back to basics to regain some balance in life. So what is our new ABC for life?

Acknowledgment: it is a challenge to know how to greet one another in public these days. We cannot build healthy communities without the commitment to acknowledge one another. We can be very quick about seeing our differences instead of what we experience together in life. We extend respect and acceptance when we are able to acknowledge one another openly. We need to talk less and listen more.

Bandwidth: it is our mental capacity and energy to deal with human relationships and life challenges. We need to expand our bandwidth when encountering discomfort and unfamiliarity. We can allow ourselves to live with a congested mindset that is not willing to learn and grow. As a Christian, my bandwidth grows more when I commit to living out my faith in my professional and personal life. Having a "Christian Government" might become a hindrance in expanding our bandwidth.

Connectivity: rightly or wrongly, social media platforms have provided ways for people to meet this need in some ways. However, being connected should not bring about jealousy, anxiety, abuse, depression, and loneliness. It is more than having access to be in touch with one another. It is the language of our human soul that cannot be limited or dictated by technology. Connectivity is the willingness to open our hearts to embrace one another.

Isaiah 54: 2

"Enlarge the place of your tent;

Stretch out the curtains of your dwellings, spare not;

Lengthen your cords

And strengthen your pegs."

Isaiah 42: 3

"A bruised reed He will not break, and smoking flax He will not quench."
