Oct 25th, 2021: The Inevitable of Life

I saw this picture a few days ago from a Facebook posting of a friend. He and I are at the same age, and we are aware of the mortality of life. It is funny because it presents some other deeper truths.

We are nappy: Perhaps, we are tired of life's nonsense and are just too tired to care. Sleeping it off can be a healthy way to cope with everything. Taking a nap can also be a way to avoid dealing with people.

We are wrinkly: Wisdom and knowledge can be hard to see in aging, but wrinkles are not. We have spent more time overcoming wrinkles than the deterioration of wisdom. Maybe wrinkles are the manifestation of life-long's failure in obtaining discernment.

We are squinty: Seeing things is a privilege at our age. The problem we have is what we should do with what we see. The more we see things, the more burden we might have. Maybe we have become more selective by squinting.

We are rocky: That is how we relax. A rocking chair might be one of the most used pieces of furniture in some households. It is the only time we can go back and forth and end up at the same place. Familiarity is essential at this point in life.

We are saggy: The is no need to deny the truth of gravity. "Excess of biological mass" will go downhill. Our movements become slower.  It just takes time to get around.

We are farty: It is like an old car. Its muffler can go off anytime without any warning, and the whole neighborhood knows that we are coming or going. Our parts are slowly breaking apart. Nothing in this life is forever.

We are leaky: It reminds us that our first success in life was going to the  potty successfully. Maybe we are longing for the same success at the end of life. We end our lives in the same way we started. We depend on God for the meaning of our life.

Ecclesiastes 3: 1-8

"For everything, there is a season and a time for every matter under heaven:
a time to be born, and a time to die;
a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted;
a time to kill, and a time to heal;
a time to break down, and a time to build up;
a time to weep, and a time to laugh;
a time to mourn, and a time to dance;
a time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together;
a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;
a time to seek, and a time to lose;
a time to keep, and a time to cast away;
a time to tear, and a time to sew;
a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
a time to love, and a time to hate;
a time for war, and a time for peace."
