Oct 4th, 2021: Truth and Reconciliation
National Day of Truth and Reconciliation is a new holiday in Canada. Here is its description: "The day honors the lost children and survivors of residential schools, their families and communities. Public commemoration of the tragic and painful history and ongoing impacts of residential schools is a vital component of the reconciliation process."
I am not sure it is helpful that we go about facing this painful fact of our history by having another holiday. It would be a lot better than we have something to share with people at their workplace on that day. I am not sure how many people would take time and reflect. It might just be another day off for some people.
Truth and Reconciliation are Christian understanding of who God is and our relationship with Him. The very faith that our government has been trying very hard to persecute. If we really want to address Truth and Reconciliation, we need to acknowledge that Sin and Forgiveness are the two realities to consider in human life. What we see is the sheer hollowness of our government.
Just in case we forget, our PM also decided to skip the ceremony to honor this very first holiday in Ottawa. He went on vacation instead. (https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-58765502.amp). The lack of sincerity tends to reveal the absence of truth in our lives. It is shameful to use someone else's suffering for political gains and then show an absolute lack of respect for them. Arrogance and stupidity are good dancing partners.
What happened to Truth and Reconciliation? We as a nation needs God's help to move forward. Let us stop demanding power and privileges because that will always damage the search for truth and justice. Reconciliation will not happen then.
1 Timothy 2:5
"For there is only one God and one Mediator who can reconcile God and humanity–the man Christ Jesus."
1 John 4:6
"We are from God, and whoever knows God listens to us, but whoever is not from God does not listen to us. This is how we recognize the Spirit of truth and the spirit of falsehood."
