Oct 6th, 2021: Lessons from Lego

I have to confess that I am crazy about Lego. I liked it as a kid, and I am still mesmerized by it whenever I get a chance to go to a Lego store. Lego takes me to a world of creativity whenever I have time to do it.

Many years ago, I attended a seminar about the benefits of playing Lego as kids and adults. Many of these benefits have helped me in how I go about my responsibilities as a pastor.

Be organized: we always have to plan and think ahead if we want to be good in whatever we do. That also helps our prayer life. A forward-thinking mind is a prayerful mind. When we are organized, we will be able to accomplish more than we anticipated.

Teamwork: Playing Lego with friends is always more fun. It also helps us to learn that we see things and go about what we see differently. We learn to listen and communicate. Sometimes facing challenges together helps us grow in our appreciation for one another.

Perseverance: Things don't always go as smoothly as we hope when we want to create something from scratch with Lego. We just don't have the pieces at times, so we have to improvise. When that happens, we enlarge our ability to see what we would like to build from another perspective.

The lessons have been helpful with what I need to do in recent months. Covid-19 has forced many of us to do more with less, and that requires planning well, working with others more effectively, and not giving up because of uncertainty.

Proverbs 27: 17

"As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another."

1 Peter 4: 10

"Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms."
