Oct 7th, 2021: "We Cannot Help Ourselves"

I laughed when I saw this picture for the first time. However, the laugh didn't last very long. I am reminded of the situation that many of us are finding ourselves to be in these days. We are stuck and frustrated because we cannot move either forward or backward. We are just standing still.

We want to travel and yet cannot do that very often because of the pandemic. Some of us want to go out with friends for a meal and cannot do that because of the vaccine passports. Some of us have enjoyed working from home for a while. We are now struggling with being at home too much.

We know that we need to keep one another healthy. We are aware of how stress has impacted our health care system because of Covid-19. We find ourselves resenting the authority for being too dictatorial at the same time. We are trying to figure out what is true and what is not.

We have friends and family members who are from both sides of the conversation about vaccination. We realize our community is in the same position as that horse as well. The horse cannot enjoy the pasture because he (she) cannot move. We as a community have lost the opportunity to enjoy the blessings of one another because of this. Standing still is not what we want to do, yet some find ourselves in that position.

Someone has to set that horse free. Who should we depend on to set us free? It won't be our government, and we know that. Freedom can be an illusion these days.

Psalm 46: 1-3

"God is our refuge and strength,

 an ever-present help in trouble.

Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea,

though its waters roar and foam, and the mountains quake with their surging."
