Feb 5th, 2022: Honor and Take Care of Our Vets
For people who think the desecration of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at the National War Memorial in Ottawa is the right thing to do, please think again. That is the most unthinkable and ungracious any human can do.
It is also sad to know that this is not the first time. On Remembrance Day in 2021, another group of vaccinated people in BC decided it was cool to deface BC War Memorial. That is equally unacceptable. There was no national outcry about this incident from the press.
If politicians care about the sacrifices of our servicemen and women, we need to go beyond platitude. Here is an excerpt of the exchange in 2018 in Edmonton between our Prime Minister and Cpl. Blaszczyk who lost a leg during his tour of duty in Afghanistan.
He asked the Prime Minister: "Why his government is fighting a legal battle with veterans (the Equitas class-action lawsuit), even though the Liberal election platform said ‘no veteran will be forced to fight their own government for the support and compensation they have earned." He then asked: "'What veterans are you talking about — those fighting for the freedoms and values you so proudly boast about, or those fighting against?” he said. “I was prepared to be killed in action. What I wasn’t prepared for, Mr. Prime Minister, was Canada turning its back on me.'"
The Prime Minister told Cpl. Blaszczyk: "Because they are asking for more than we are able to give right now." The funny thing is that he has been quite nonchalant in giving out money that we do not have since March 2020.
Let us learn the meaning of sincerity when we talk about caring for our Vets and their families. We do not just protect statues that remind us of their sacrifices. We protect their well-being and their family benefits. Let us not turn our back on these men and women.
Luke 12: 2
"Nothing is covered up that will not be revealed, or hidden that will not be known."
1 Peter 2: 1
"So put away all malice and all deceit and hypocrisy and envy and all slander."
