Feb 9th, 2022: Some Thoughts About Cancer

Terry Fox's dream is one day, the world doesn't have to suffer from cancer anymore. He is an example of courage and commitment to fight against cancer. The Terry Fox Foundation has raised more than 750 million dollars over the years since his death.

When a person has cancer and goes through treatment, there are many other questions she (he) has besides medical treatment and side effects.

We will have to deal with the question of life and death (human mortality) more honestly. Many will start asking about the meaning of life. It is not a hypothesis any longer. It is more deeply personal and urgent. We want to see how our life makes sense and has meaning. Time is limited.

Some might ask: "Why Me?" What have we done to be selected to be a part of that form of human suffering? Is something wrong with our personal character or our way of life? There is always a moment of self-pity when we face unexpected suffering.

Embracing a deeper understanding of our relationship with God can provide the following positive outlooks:

Hope beyond our understanding

Learn to ask for forgiveness and forgive at the same time. It will lead to freedom from regret.

Have a proper understanding of our life and be thankful for what we have.

Surrender to the will of God and be at peace.

If you know someone who has cancer, please remember that words can escape, but he (she) always appreciates your presence. Be that comforting presence so he (she) might experience God.

Psalm 119:114

“You are my hiding place and my shield; I hope in Your word.”

Lamentations 3:24

“‘The LORD is my portion,’ says my soul, ‘therefore I hope in Him!’”
