March 15th, 2022: Our Foolishness


"For my people are foolish; they know me not; they are stupid children; they have no understanding. They are ‘wise’—in doing evil! But how to do good they know not.”
Jeremiah 4:22

In our own stupidity, we claim that we have control of our destiny.
We pretend to have an understanding of how all things should be.

In our foolishness, we declare that God is dead.
So we can discover that the world crisis comes to a head.

In our lack of understanding, we pretend that our knowledge is superior.
Then we realize that our awareness of human relationships is inferior.

In our ignorance, we deny the place of wisdom.
We now face the depth of human suffering that we cannot fathom.

In our spiritual bewilderment, we have no insight into our life.
We have no discernment between good and evil while being alive.

In our rebellion, we refuse to do what is good.
We kill, cheat and condemn one another in the name of falsehood.

In our lack of wisdom, we encounter spiritual ambiguity,
We have brought about the darkness in humanity.

  Many people have lost their jobs during the last few months due to Covid-19. The economy doesn't appear to recover soon enough. As I talk to people about their worries for the future, there is more than just the loss of income that we are talking about.  Many have journeyed through the conversation of self-worth and identity. Some of us who are doing pastoral care counselling, we have been talking about some of the possible worst scenarios if this pandemic continues. Loss of identity and loss of hope tend to go together. Oct 21st, 2020: Perfectionism, A Double Edged-Sword

    Perfectionism is a struggle that many business leaders have to work through in their daily activities. They have some ideas about what they are struggling with and yet finding it hard to overcome it. Some people would say that it is a double-edged sword because perfectionism does motivate us to raise our performance level and our work quality. Yet, it can create tremendous anxiety that brings about procrastination. Harvard Business Review mentions the following challenges in an article about how to manage our perfectionism. Let us have a look at them with my reflections. See the big picture: when we fail to see life beyond the confinement of our fear and interests, perfectionism will slow us down because of our pride. When we are able to see the big picture, our aim for excellence is about seeing the beauty of God in both successes and failures.
