March 26th, 2022: Being Uninformed vs Being Misinformed


Some wrote recently about how the West has misjudged Putin. Putin believes that "Power produces Truth and Truth reinforces Power". We know that the notion of truth in Russia today is questionable. That is why Putin has exercised his power to introduce his version of the truth. We all see the images of Russians cheering him on as their great leader. Now we see his version of the truth has brought him more power. It is a perversion of truth. Sending Russian troops to invade Ukraine is a perversion of power.


We might wonder whether he can keep the truth away from his people and what happens to him when they find out. It is not 1930, so it is harder to keep people from searching for more information. Only time can tell us. Mass manipulation is more common these days, and it happens everywhere, not just in Russia. Truth is hard to find because human hearts have become more wicked.


We are aware that objective media is not that available anymore. It is impossible for media outlets to be objective when big businesses and governments own them. Watching the news these days is like watching well-crafted propaganda. Sometimes it is not that well prepared. The bias can be seen by how newscasters prepare and ask questions. Why do biased and judgmental talking heads make so much money these days?


As Denzel Washington put eloquently: “If you don’t read the newspaper, you’re uninformed, if you do read it, you’re misinformed.” He then went on to say: "We live in a society now where it’s just first. Who cares? Get it out there. We don’t care who it hurts. We don’t care who it destroys. We don’t care if it’s true. Just say it, sell it." Mr. Putin might be the one that benefits from this kind of news reporting.


"You are of your father the devil, and your will is to do your father's desires. He was a murderer from the beginning and has nothing to do with the truth because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies." John 8: 44

Dealing with pain sometimes affects our ability and flexibility. A physiotherapist friend gave me a set of home exercises to help with that. They are simple yet intense at the same time. One of the disciplines I have been trying to embrace more fully is confession. It’s not just about recognizing where we have gone wrong; it’s about how we have chosen to live our lives independently from God. It’s about whether we truly want God to be part of our lives. The absence of meaningful confession will damage our freedom to experience intimacy with God. Sept 4th, 2024: Praying in Images

It has been a rough few days. Living in immense pain does not allow us much energy to think about anything. I ended up praying in images, and not many words came out of my mouth. Most of the images were of people I know. God knew that I was praying for them as their faces came to my mind. I did not need to mention the circumstances or situations of their lives—He knows. My heart was at peace as I ended my days with these images. He will take care of my body, and I know this because I was able to get some sleep. Tomorrow is in His hands.

Oct 1st, 2022: Be With Those Who Suffer

  Listening to a young woman who shared her experience of being raped repeatedly by a family member for over four years as a teenager made my heart ache. The man who did that was a leader of a church. He was imprisoned for seven months and released. He was her stepfather. Her mother chose to pick him over her after his release. Her life has changed forever. She had to go to a foster home. Her foster parents helped her with her restoration and her faith in God. Her supervisor at work asked me to see her because someone at work was inappropriate toward her. That triggered many emotions within her. I did not expect the story I heard from her. The meeting took longer than I thought, and it was toward the end of the day. She kept talking about her anger and the pain she felt when men treated her like a subject.
