Dec 11th, 2020: Christmas Blessing - The Right to Be Human
I have met some people who feel very strongly about not wearing a mask and not taking the whole Covid-19 situation seriously. I have heard about some were sick with all of the symptoms and decided not to get tested. I find it deceptive when people do that. Don't believe the pandemic is one thing. But don't get yourself tested when having all of the signs of Covid-19 is another. Why do these folks become so afraid of being tested? What is a big deal about being tested positive if they don't believe in the seriousness of it? Does it have to deal with the fear of being quarantined if they are tested positive? I undertand that some communities are concerned about the stigma that comes along with it. Is it good citizenship not to pass on our illness to others, regardless of what we have?
One thing we know for sure that more people are getting sick by this virus, and more have died. I am not about to be paralysed by the fear of the virus. The problem we have to face is that if we don't work together, our nations will be paralysed by it. Should we ask ourselves what to do out of love for others? Should we be so preoccupied with our right or righteousness and yet fail to know what it means to love? Help others to be safe physically and emotionally is part of loving.
I don't have all of the answers for what is going on in the world today. I have no doubts that there are wicked people who intend to destroy the world we live in. I also know that I am not free from that guilt in many ways. Christmas tells us that God has chosen to love us while we would rather have nothing to do with him. It is sacrificial love. How can we imitate that love in dealing with each other at this present time? Should we offer one another comfort and protection before we are told by the law? Human rights might depend on us. The right for us to be human depends on God. That is another blessing of Christmas.
1 Corinthians 16: 14
"Let all that you do be done in love."
