Jan 3rd, 2022: What Do We Remember About God?

Some of my nephews asked about a specific dish that my mother used to cook when we gathered together as a family last November. You can see its picture in this blog. They told me that they have been looking for it in every Vietnamese restaurant in their cities. I shared with them that their grandmother created that dish, and only some of us have the recipe 😄.

It is not really a fancy dish. I wonder why these young chaps have such fond memories of it. Although I have no doubts that my mother was a great cook, I think they remember more of how my mother treated them whenever they came to see her.

We might have a similar experience when we consider our memories of God.

We remember that God hears our cry in our prayers. Have you ever felt utterly hopeless because no one seems to understand what you are experiencing? We can also recall that God relieves us from our pain.

We remember that God protects us. God doesn't just shield us from external harm. He also protects us from ourselves by speaking directly into our lives.

We remember that God teaches and corrects us. When we can discern our spiritual growth, we become more aware of how God has taught us. He helps us keep our path straight and narrow.

Psalm 143: 1-6

"Lord, hear my prayer, listen to my cry for mercy; in your faithfulness and righteousness come to my relief.

Do not bring your servant into judgment, for no one living is righteous before you.

The enemy pursues me, he crushes me to the ground; he makes me dwell in the darkness like those long dead.

So my spirit grows faint within me; my heart within me is dismayed.

I remember the days of long ago;  I meditate on all your works and consider what your hands have done.

I spread out my hands to you; I thirst for you like a parched land."
