Feb 8th, 2022: Listening to God

I am always excited when a friend who doesn't share my faith conviction sends me a note and talks to me about prayer and meditation. Here is one more picture recently from my Punjabi friend.

How are we going to listen to God?

We cannot listen to God without having a relationship with Him. Most marriages go wrong because the partners cannot listen to each other well. We have a relationship with God by acknowledging we are created and redeemed by Him. We go about our days understanding that He is with us and for us.

We cannot listen to God well if we don't dare to discern our desire. If we are so preoccupied with ourselves, we most likely don't hear God very well. Listening to God requires that we are free from our corrupted selves. We need to be aware of our motivation and longing.

We are thankful that God wants to be with us. It is not about asking for things or telling God how we feel. It is about being with Him and enjoying His presence. Sometimes silence is the best form of communication in meditation. Our hearts can be still, and our minds can be mindful of who God is and who we are at the same time.

So I am thankful for this friend as I meditated on the goodness of God this morning. I am also grateful for the many conversations I have had with people recently about how we discern the movement of the Holy Spirit. My heart is at peace, and my mind is confident that God will bring about the righteousness of our nations. We just have to listen to Him.

Psalm 25: 4-5

"Show me your ways, Lord, teach me your paths. Guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long."
